In just a few weeks students will be headed back to school. How will you prepare them for the social and spiritual challenges they will face? Whether you are a parent, pastor, youth leader, or Sunday school teacher you know that students’ faith is regularly challenged and the social pressures are huge.

Our schools are perhaps one of the greatest mission fields in North America. With an increasingly secular culture, millions of students never hear about God or about what Jesus did for us on the cross. Schools, administrators, students and teachers are in great need of prayer.

There are several really great organizations that focus exclusively on praying for schools:

See You at the Pole is a call to students to gather around the flagpole on Wednesday, September 26, to pray for their school – for administrators, teachers and fellow students. The Wednesday gathering is a part of the Global Week of Student Prayer in which students are encouraged to find times and places to pray for their specific school. Follow the link above for resources and additional information.

Claim Your Campus started with eight high school students meeting weekly to pray, in the largest public high school in the state of Michigan. The vision of Claim Your Campus is to see students at every middle and high school praying for grace, peace, justice and mercy. CYC provides training and resources to help students launch a prayer movement in their school. Follow the link above for more information.

Moms in Prayer International gathers women together to pray for children and schools in 146 countries and all 50 US states. This is a great organization with lots of resources for helping moms become active prayer warriors. Their vision is that every school in the world would be covered in prayer.

There is hope for the next generation. If we can challenge students to pray and support them with the prayers of parents, we just might see a generation trust in Christ.

Consider having your small groups or Sunday school classes adopt a teacher or administrator. Faithfully pray for them. Look for ways to bless them. Ask them about challenges they face that you can take before the Father. Your prayers will make a difference.
